Get entries in early
Don't wait to see who has entered. Other players may be doing the same and as a result, no one enters!
At the closing date several things happen:
- deciding if the event has sufficient entries to run
- our volunteers start sorting entries and contacting people where their groups aren't viable
Accepting late entries causes our volunteers to waste their time (communicating with players, compiling information, generating timetables) but can also mean categories that were deemed not viable might have been had you entered on time.
Share the event on social media / in your clubs
The more people know about an event the better. More likely to get a better entry and so you, as a competitor, get more contests.
We will create events on our Facebook page.
You can help spread the word simply by :
- marking yourself as interested or going on the Facebook event
- commenting on posts by the page about the event
- share the event to your club groups / on your club pages
Contacting us to discuss the event
Yorkshire & Humberside regional events are run by volunteers not paid staff. That includes running the social media accounts and website.
Many of our volunteers are also busy in the evenings (eg family, running clubs etc).
Please be patient, we may not always be able to reply immediately but we will endeavour to reply as soon as we can.
Please avoid contacting just to ask about numbers. We will try to contact anyone in a category of less than 3 to discuss options. An event can have a lot people involved as competitors, if they all want to discuss things that's a lot of volunteer time taken up.
You're welcome to contact us to ask questions or clarify things, but please think about whether your question is answered in this page or in the terms of entry you accepted when entering.
Before the event
Make sure you bring your licence and it's correct. Depending which officials are at the event we may be able to look you up but that is not guaranteed. Looking people up in the BJA Dojo to check licence and/or grade wastes time and delays the weigh in, causing delays in the running of the event.
- Make sure your licence is the right kind (recreational licences are NOT valid for competition)
- Make sure your grade is correct in your record book
- Check your licence is in date!
On the day of the event
- Get to weigh in at the right time (eg higher grades might weigh in later, don't try to weigh in early. You are slowing down commencement of earlier categories).
- Bring WHITE kits! Blue kits are only needed at national events. At regional events blue kits just cause confusion and slows down progress of the day
- Bring blue & white belts. This goes on all our entry info, but still players don't bring them, instead end up wasting time trying to borrow one when they are due on the mat
Terms of entry
When entering one of our events you must read and accept our terms of entry.
This includes info on when we will / won't refund entries fees etc.
