Liam Tarandij, 14, a member of Judo Excellence and GB cadet was recently nominated Calderdales Junior sportsman of the year at The Sports Presentation night hosted by Halifax Courier News.
The guest speaker for the event was former British Lions Rugby star John Bentley who entertained those present with his dry sense of humour! Liam was up against a 16 yr old England Rugby player and an England Cricket player.
Well done Liam for raising the profile of Judo in the area and for attaining the award.
Congratulations are due to Ben Guest of Grimsby Judo club who competed in the 2009 British Open and secured 5th place from 37 entries in the under 66Kg men.

Michael Feuss (1st Dan) from the E.I.S. Sheffield Judo club, recently won gold at the British Schools championships at under 73kg.
Michael was also awarded the Simon Hicks Trophy for the spirit of judo in recognition of his conduct both on and off of the contest mat.
